Secret Life
sound intervention

If urban honey and other edibles in town are more healthy and 'real' than the non-urban monocultural counterparts, it is about time to revive some knowledge -and secrets as well. In the museum we set up three stations to let the public experience Brussels biodiversity through food, sound and bees.

Personalized tasting of cityforaged food
Gosie Vervloessem & Bartaku

A Brussels style pesto was created on the spot based on your personal needs. A team of the finest food scientists were there to find out which plants were best for your pesto. All the ingrediënts were collected in town.

The sound of life composting
Els Viaene

Under our feet is a lot of activity happening by all kinds of tiny creatures. Some of them do an amazing job in composting organic waste. In the museum we collected some larves of the Black Soldier Fly, some woudlice and two big snails. We added some special microphones and made it possible for the public to dive into the miniature world of these insects.
People could deposit leftovers of their pesto and listen to the life composting.

Many thanks to Filip De Block (Vivarium Museum Natural Sciences) for providing his knowledge and insects.

Honey for a Story
Christina Stadlbauer

Christina created a mobile shop to let the public taste what her colony of honeybees harvested in Schaarbeek. A delicacy without monetary value, but traded for songs, experiences, stories.
